Child Protection Training
April 29 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm
PURPOSE OF THE COURSE
The purpose of this Child Protection interactive training workshop is to ensure the provision of safe, effective and compassionate care and protection for a child, during any potential child protection issues. The instructors are very mindful of the very emotive issues surrounding child protection and abuse that may arise. Using and combining didactic teaching with the participatory disciplines of Art, Poetry and Music, tutors and students will participate in various teaching techniques and strategies. These are specifically designed to support each individual participant to become more aware and knowledgeable of child protection issues and to be thus more responsive to the child within what can be challenging and difficult times.
Participants on this course will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to deal competently when caring for a child who is suspected as suffering from some form of abuse, or who has reported directly allegations of some form of abuse or neglect. Emphasis will be placed on the engagement with the child, their families, professionals and significant others when such situations arise within their workplace.
The overall purpose of such training will be based on the principles of The Northern Ireland Executive government as they are responsible for child protection in Northern Ireland. They set out policy, legislation and statutory guidance on how the child protection system should work. The Safeguarding Board for Northern Ireland (SBNI) coordinates, and ensures the effectiveness of the work to protect and promote the welfare of all children in NI. Evidence will be drawn from a wide range of the literature to help inform and develop the participant’s knowledge base. DHSSPS NI Guidance documents will also be provided as reference memories.
The course will focus on the development of knowledge, skills, expertise and personal attitudes in dealing with child protection issues. Participants will be engaged within an interactive, informal workshop format. Active participation and exploration of effective communication will be encouraged and supported throughout the course.
